Slave to the Nicotine

Robert Bryson Hall better known by his stage name Logic has been a very fast growing artist in the rap world, starting off with 5 mix tapes and 2 albums that have come out in the past couple years. Logic has made his presence felt with a career spanning 7 years long and many big hits. The album Under Pressure being his first album would be my recommendation to anyone who would want to start listening to Logic. Out of the many songs on his freshman album Nikki would by far top the rest in my opinion. Nikki delves deeper into the mindset and the past of Logic, explaining his addiction to Nicotine, giving the highly addictive drug the nickname Nikki.

I feel that the most poetic of all the lines would be the line that shows his true addiction to the drug in the outro, using a metaphor:

¨Slave for the Said I’m a slave for the nicotinic Been a slave for ya I’m a muthafuckin slave for ya Slave for the nicotine Nikki, Nikki slave for ya I’m a slave for ya Nikki I’m a muthafuckin slave for ya¨

In many of Logic´s songs he has used the terminology Nikki but many had not been able to decipher the meaning behind this. Many thought that he was talking a rocky relationship with a girl in his life. He wasn't talking about a girl, but he was talking about a relationship, a deadly one. Even though Logic admitted to his very dangerous relationship to Nikki in the outro that is not the only time that he admits this he even goes as far as calling Nikki his ¨Corretta¨ a line referring to Martin Luther King's wife Coretta Scott King. Even before this Logic keeps showing his relationship with Nikki but also Mary. A slang used for the drug Marijuana another that drug that he caught on to at a young age but dropped later on.

¨Uh, I know this shorty that go by the name of Mary I used to fuck her way back when I didn't know a thing Skipping school with all my homies on some truancy But when I ended things with her it was just you and me¨

In the long run Logic is using this song to portray not only his young life but also some of the decisions that he has made in his life whether they good or bad. Logic in his 7 years had truly captured what it means to be an aspiring rapper in this game and I think that Logic will continue to share with the world his views, and his feelings along with amazing flow, and Lyricism
