OBrien's writers
You can tell a true war story by the way it never seems to end. Not then not never. Not when Mitchell Sanders stood up and moved off into the dark(72).
O' Brien is explaining in this passage how war never actually ends in the perspective of a solider. The war may literally end but the solider is still haunted by all the terrible things that they experienced. They could remember the way they felt at war, and witnessing their friends die right in front of them. Altogether war never leaves a solider.
