Sunlight

O'Brien writes,

And in the end, of course, a true war story is never about war. It's about sunlight. It's about the special way that dawn spreads out on a river when you know you must cross the river and march into the mountains and do things you are afraid to do. (81)

O'Brien reveals the true meaning of a war, and what he feels a war story should really be like. Not b]about the glorification or the medals or the terrible experiences they had, but sunlight. It shows that sunlight is all around a true war story and kind of guides you through what you must do, even when your afraid.
