Sure Thing

I will be analyzing a song called, “Sure Thing” by Miguel from the album All I Want Is You. The central theme of this song is love. Miguel uses many different comparisons to describe how much he loves this person. It deepens the meaning of love by making the listener feel how much he loves this person without him saying how much he loves them. His many strong comparisons help the listener to hear feel how much he loves them. The audience of this poem is definitely the person he is writing about. He uses ‘you’ when writing the lyrics of the song. In the song Miguel uses rhyme to make the song flow more and it makes the listener feel as though he’s said the words a million times and as though he had practiced for the song to be perfect. This helps enhance the feelings of how much he loves this person and wants to notice his emotions towards them but also wants the expression to be perfect. He sings “I’ll treat you like a brother/respect you like a lover.” He uses repetition throughout the song to show the person that they can trust him and they have nothing to worry about. He repeats the lines, “You could bet that/never gotta sweat that.” Miguel uses unlike comparisons to express the way he feels. Such as the lines,”If you’ll be the cash/I’ll be the rubber band” and also the lines, “If you’ll be the match/I will be the fuse.” Most people compare more common items such as ‘peanut butter and jelly’ or ‘milk and cookies’ but Miguel uses very uncommon but true comparisons. That use really shows how this song is different from other love songs. Miguel uses onomatopoeia to show how strongly he feels about what he is describing. Such as when he said “I will be the fuse, BOOM” and he enunciates certain words to show their importance.
